Adventures so far: Adventure 1 Real Date: November 13 1997 Campaign Dates: January 5 - 9 2007 Active Character: Jake, Beowulf, Frank The Mission: ERIS is interested in acquiring the services of Dr. Jake Archer. Dr. Archer is 37 years old, 6'5", about 200 lbs, with blond hair. He has ben missing for three years and is believed to be living in Columbia, somewhere near the city of *?*. He disappeared shortly after being acquitted of sexual harassment charges at a prestigious University in California. He had a reputation for throwing wild parties, was rumored to be a whiz at creating interesting substances to be consumed at these parties. He was also rumored to have an unprofessional interest and relationships with many of his younger female students. Nothing was ever proved in court, but his reputation was such that the University came to an undisclosed settlement with Dr. Archer, and shortly thereafter, he disappeared. The objectives of the mission were to discover the location of Dr. Archer, and to gather information that might be helpful in recruiting Dr. Archer's services for ERIS. It was not necessary to actual recruit the Doctor at this point. The agents were flown by commercial airline to the city, where they booked
themselves
into a hotel. Some of their more "interesting" equipment was shipped by private
cargo and stored at a warehouse in the city. Jake went down to the casino in the hotel, he observed two individuals who seemed to have a system worked out that enabled them to win fairly regularly at Blackjack. One individual, in a rather loud white suit, was rather obvious and did the winning, while the other individual (Fredrick) actual lost a small amount consistently. The way they arranged the chips in front of them was the key to the method used to count the cards and pass messages to each other. When the player in white was asked to leave the casino, Fredrick left shortly after and Jake followed him. Jake confronted Fredrick in the next casino, agreeing to keep his knowledge of Fredrick's gambling system to himself in exchange for Fredrick bringing to one of the more interesting club's in town, the kind not found in the tourist brochure. Fredrick agreed to meet him back at the hotel at 10:00 PM. Jake arrived back at the hotel at around 8:00 PM. He met Frank and Beowulf in Beowulf's room, where Beowulf and Frank had been doing some computer hacking using the hotel computer. They had not found an entry for Dr. Jake Archer in any of the standard directories, and where now trying to break into the Dept of Motor Vehicles. With Jake's assistance, they accessed the D.M.V. and searched for people matching Dr. Archer's description. This eventually came up with the name Art Jackson. They then broke into the computers for the local pharmacy company and did a few searches there (something to do with reverse tracing of phone numbers and searching for people who had ordered particular pharmaceuticals, my memory is a bit fuzzy ), which gave them some information on a Domino Rodriguez who picked up a prescription about once a month for a neurological condition similar to epilepsy. This took them until 10:00 and they went down to meet Fredrick. Fredrick showed up in a rather fancy limo, and took them to an out of the way warehouse. It was obvious that an identity check was done on the way. After checking their guns in at the door, they were allowed into the club. The club consisted of two sides, one side for privileged members only, the other side, where they were now, open to guests. There was a bar beside the coat/gun check, another bar across the room which also opened to the other side, at the back was a third bar, and at the front, a stage with a rather loud band playing. After mingling for awhile, the characters accumulated a few bits of interesting info. Someone matching the doctor's description did occasionally show up at the club, often in the company of a tall, good looking Spanish woman. The newest drug of choice was Ecstasy II which heightened the senses, particularly touch and acted as an aphrodisiac. This drug was less than a month old. Frank ended up having to dance with a rather bouncy young lady who's boyfriend Rodney (or whatever his name was) and recently been blown up in his car, presumably by the local drug lord that he worked for, one Roman Estano. This fellow had started making a name for himself about two years ago. Jake had wandered over to the bar that opened to the private side of the club, had handed his card (Jack of Hearts) to the bartender and asked that he deliver it to the club manager. Apparently this had a rather dramatic effect on the manager, who quickly agreed to meet Jake and then arrange for a meeting with the maker of Ecstasy II. He also provided Jake with three passes to the private side of the club. Once over on the other side, they discovered that just about every service imaginable was available, much to Frank's despair. Doing some searching on the built in computer terminal did not reveal anything really useful, which is not to say it didn't reveal anything interesting. The next day, Frank realized that he had missed going to church the previous day, which had been a Sunday. He decided to go anyway, even though it was now Monday. Jake and Beowulf tagged along, hoping to find a good restaurant along the way. When they got near the church, they discovered that a funeral was in progress. It was for the young man that had been blown up. Roman Estano was there, along with a woman who was identified as Domino Rodriguez, Estano's "main squeeze". Jake eventually realized that this woman matched the woman described to him the previous night as being with Dr. Archer. Jake rented a motorcycle, and Frank and Beowulf rented a sport utility, and they headed out to the estate of Roman Estano. Jake faked problems with his motor cycle and got into the garage at the estate and discovered a car that matched that which the Doctor was known to drive. Frank and Beowulf checked out the grounds from a nearby hill, and spotted the Doctor in the swimming pool. The limo with Roman and Domino showed up a little while later. A meeting back at the club later that night confirmed that Dr. Archer was the creator of Ecstasy II and that he was working for Roman Estano. He did not seem worried when accused of having an affair with Domino, saying that Roman knew that Domino accompanied him to the club and that nothing more than that happened. He said he would consider the job offer but he doubted that ERIS could offer him more than what he already had. That completed the requirements of the mission and the agents returned home the next day. |
