Family Tree

I’ve played around with Family Tree Maker and Ancestry.ca on and off for a few years and am thinking of trying to publish some of the information to this website.

I’ve been looking at a plugin called “RootsPersona” that looks promising.

First I’ll have to make a long overdue backup of this site, then I’ll create a small test GEDCOM file that goes back a couple generations and includes some living and deceased family members. I want to set the import to have deceased members visible to the public but living members either only visible to me (if possible) or else not included at all.

I’ll do a post on how it all goes.

  1. For my first test I created a GEDCOM file starting with my Paternal Grandfather and all of his ancestors.
That worked well and seemed to create all the pages and the person list properly.
I then did a full export to GEDCOM, I had to try a few times to get the pages created, I ended up picking people off the list in a couple of chunks rather than trying to do them all at once, and that seemed to work.
One problem that I’ve noticed now is that my Father and his siblings didn’t connect to my Grandfather, and they aren’t listed under him as his children.
I’m going to try doing another GEDCOM export of him and all his descendents and see if that fixes the problem.
