Teaser: A month ago, Starfleet picked up an unusual alien signal emanating from the Seku system, deep inside the Carina Nebula. The runabout Susquehanna was initially dispatched to investigate, but the crew failed to report and is presumed lost. Starfleet must investigate the source of the signal and locate the missing runabout.

Active Characters:

  • Cmd. O’Nnyah (Raven)
  • Lt. Cmd. Reittan Andreas (Jon)
  • Lt Cmd. Taemin Rahn (Garrett)
  • Lt. Cmd Asha (Jaime)
  • Dok – Ferengi arms designer/dealer (Kelly)

Important NPCs:

  • Captain Georj Brandt – New Captain of the U.S.S. Kimura

Notes: This was a straight run through of the adventure as published so I have not provided a detailed description.

Notable Information: The signal is being sent by ancient alien technology similar to that discovered on Orgun III (Decision Point). The signal performs like an echo locator – it’s waiting for a response from other obelisks in the Expanse.

Mission Recap: The Crew of the Kimura arrived in system and do an initial scan of Seku VI. They pick up signals from two Federation comm badges as well as indications that two small ships were recently in the system. One crashed on the planet and the other left.

Further scans reveal that the ship that crashed was a Romulan shuttle. They also pick up a settlement near where the source of the alien signal is coming from.

After carefully considering the dangers of trying to fly a shuttle down to the planet vs beaming down, they decide to risk the transporters, taking extra time and precautions to ensure a safe beam down.

They successfully beam down and as they start to move towards the Federation comm signals, they are attacked by two Romulans.

Beam Down Site

A brief firefight ensues, with the Away team managing to stun the Romulans. They question them and confirm that they did crash their shuttle on the planet. They were hit with an ion beam weapon that originated from the same location as the alien signal. Four other Romulans survived the crash and are headed towards the settlement and the signal site.

The Away team also discovers that the two comm badges belong to two crewmembers from the Susquehanna which were the victims of an unfortunate transporter accident that left them partially buried in the ground.

While this is occurring, the Kimura receives a distress call from the missing shuttle. The captured Romulans are beamed aboard and the Kimura leaves to search for the Susquehanna.

The Away team decides not to travel to the crash site of the Romulan shuttle which is a few kilometers to the north. The signal and the settlement are several hours to the east. They also decide not to try and intercept the Romulans on the way, instead trying to arrive before them.

Along the way, they run into a swarm of poisonous stinging insects. Some quick thinking allows them to come up with a frequency to broadcast on the tricorder that drives them away. Dr. O’Nnyah does get swarmed briefly but her fur protects her from getting bitten before the insects are driven off.

Insect Attack

They also end up having to climb up a steep ridge, fortunately they had planned ahead for rough terrain and had climbing gear with them. On the way up, Lt. Cmd Asha discovers some fabric from a Romulan uniform and a few other signs that the Romulans also followed this path and are ahead of them.

Once they are up on the mesa and travel for a couple more hours, a dust storm rolls in. They have difficulty locating any decent shelter, but are able to rig up one of the transport enhancers to act as a shield. In fact, it works so well that once the storm dies down a little, they are able to continue traveling carefully and get ahead of the Romulans. As they get near the signal and the settlement, they rig up the two tricorders that they recovered from the Susquehanna crewmembers to act as an early warning when the Romulans are approaching.

The Away Team is then captured by members of the settlement, choosing to surrender peacefully and negotiate with the leader, Ero Drallen. They warn the settlers about the approaching Romulans and arrange to visit the chamber that the miners discovered, and where the signal is coming from.

They travel into the mines and into the ancient chamber. After some investigation, helped by the recognition that it is similar to the technology that they encountered on Orgun III, they are able to shut down the signal, but inadvertently start a self destruct sequence. At the same time, the early warning that the Romulans are arriving gets set off.

Lt. Cmd. Reittan Andreas and Dr. O’Nnyah leave with the miner who escorted them to assist the settlers. After several very tense minutes Lt Cmd. Taemin Rahn, Lt. Cmd Asha and Dok are able to shut down the self destruct.

The settlers, with assistance from Lt. Cmd. Reittan Andreas and Dr. O’Nnyah are able to defeat the remaining Romulans, although one Romulan did die in the battle.

Several hours later, the Kimura returns, having successfully retrieved the Susquehanna. Dok also manages to obtain some parts of the weapon system for further study.
