Teaser: Admiral April Hebert is doing a Team Building exercise with the command crew in the Holodeck. They will participate in an incident related to Capt. James T. Kirk’s U.S.S. Enterprise so she can see how they work together as a team.

Notable Information: The recreation was based on an event involving the Augment Virus.
Teaser: The characters are part of a rescue mission to locate the S.S. Tesla, which crash-landed in a remote wilderness area of Orgun III. The planet is suffering from geological upheaval, as well as atmospheric electromagnetic interference, forcing an away team to take a shuttle to the surface to investigate.

Notable Information: Ancient technology was used to move Orgun III to it’s current location and maintain it’s stability. This is breaking down and the planet will break apart within the next year.
The Federation scientists were allowed to stay and assist the Lermean’s with their plan to evacuate to Orgun II.
Teaser: Starfleet has received a backchannel communique from the Klingon Empire requesting aid for a plague that had been thought dead for centuries. Starfleet has deployed the U.S.S. Kimura to the B’el’th paH star system to provide relief and bring what the Federation knows about the virus, its origins, and its cure.

Notable Information: The virus is clearly heavily modified from the original Augment virus. At first, analysis suggests Vulcan RNA strands, but further analysis and expertise shows that the RNA is Romulan in origin, and the method of splicing the RNA strands into the virus is something from the Romulan Star Empire.
Cmd. Natalie Sigmund classified all information about this incident as “Top Secret”
As things wrapped up on the planet, a visual only communication was received from Cmd. Natalie Sigmund from the U.S.S. Cass. The viewscreen switched to a view of outside U.S.S. Cass, showing a Romulan warbird adrift but still powered. The communication was cut off before she could say anything. The direction of the communication beam was determined, but they were unable to determine the distance, other than it was from within the Shackleton Expanse.
Teaser: The U.S.S. Nightingale, a Nova-class Federation science vessel, has accidentally crossed into the Romulan Neutral Zone. Moments after the mistake was discovered, a Romulan warbird decloaked and opened fire. The attack took out most of the Nightingale’s engineering section and engineers. However, the Nightingale did manage to fire back and appears to have damaged the warbird. Both ships are now stuck in the Neutral Zone until they can effect repairs.
Unfortunately, the Romulans are insisting they will take the Nightingale and her crew back to Romulus to stand trial for war crimes. But things are not as they seem. Can the players win a battle of wits with a Romulan captain and save the crew of the Kimura’s sister ship, the Nightingale, or will this encounter lead to war?

Notable Information: It was discovered that Lt. Tellek, a Science Officer on the U.S.S. Nightingale was actually a Romulan spy that had been embedded in Starfleet over eight years ago. Tellek escaped with data on the Nova Class starships and about the Federation forces along the Neutral Zone. Fortunately because Starfleet is now aware of what data was stolen, the damage is minimal.
Teaser: The Kimura is delivering scientific equipment to Epsilon 19, a scientific research station in the Osarin system, deep in the Shackleton Expanse. The star of the Osarin system is collapsing at an unusual rate and is mysteriously emitting triolic waves of increasing strength. Epsilon 19 was constructed to monitor the star and determine the reason for its rapid decay, as well as find the source of the triolic radiation.

Notable Information: The Osarin system is inhabited by cosmozoan life-forms that live on the sun’s surface, consuming vast quantities of energy from it, emitting triolic waves as part of the process. They are spawning and the young are heading out into deep space, probably in search of stars of their own.
Teaser: The Kimura must escort a convoy of merchant vessels carrying supplies from Narendra Station to a small research outpost deep within the Shackleton Expanse. Because the exploration of the Expanse is a joint concern between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, the Kimura is supported by a Klingon cruiser, the K’Vort-class bird-of-prey I.K.S. Mupwl’ (Hammer), under the command of Captain Akul.

Notable Information: The electromagnetic eddies in the region are actually components of a much larger insterstellar cloud spanning part of this sector of the Shackleton Expanse. In addition, an analysis of eddy drift patterns suggests that some of the eddies are not naturally occurring.
Teaser: A Borg Sphere has been detected in the Shackleton Expanse. However, it seems to be inactive. The Kimura is sent to investigate. Why are the Borg inactive? What are they waiting for? Will they stay that way?

Notable Information: The defense system on the planet, which wiped out all life forms on Borg cube is similar in technology to what was found on Orgun III. A Romulan Warbird was also hit by the defense system and drifted out of the system. It was not one of the Romulan ships encountered and it’s fate remains unknown. A Romulan Tug was captured by the crew of the Kimura.
Teaser: An automated distress call from a cargo ship called “The Wandering Child” is picked up near where the Borg Cube recently entered a transwarp corridor. No further communication is received from the ship.
An initial scan shows that “The Wandering Child” appears to be operating normally, moving at a slow but steady pace from the direction of Klingon space towards an Andorian colony in the Shackleton Expanse.

Notable Information: Opening a transwarp conduit in the areas of electromagnetic storms in the Shackleton Expanse can cause rifts to other dimensions.
Teaser: While conducting a stellar and planetary survey mission to a remote part of the Shackleton Expanse near Sigma Librae and the Romulan Star Empire and encrypted signal is picked up emanating from a near by solar system. Sensors sporadically pick up what seems to be a space station orbiting a Class-M planet. The station seems to be blinking in and out of existence and the signal is not repeated.
Cmd. Natalie Sigmund, Star Fleet Intelligence (off screen, message only)
Notable Information: A short burst message from Cmd. Natalie Sigmund was sent, requesting the Kimura make a course alteration to a nearby “system of interest”.
Scans of the system show a class M planet with life forms up to the primate level, but no civilizations. An object briefly appears every fifteen minutes for a few seconds at a time, this is determined to be an old Romulan Space Station that is cloaked except the central core gets exposed when an encoded message is sent every 15 minutes.
A Romulan body in a EVA suit is recovered, a Romulan. It is infected with a virus very similar to the one that caused the plague in the B’el’th paH star system several months previous. That was when the crew of the Kimura first met Natalie Sigmund. An unknown second virus is also detected in the Romulan’s body. The corpse is left in the EVA suit in a stasis field and moved to Med Lab 2.
The crew figures they may have as little as two hours before a Romulan Warbird could show up, so an away team is sent to the Space Station.
The Station seems to be unoccupied except for several diseased rats, and a diseased primate which attacks the crew when caught between two groups of crew members. The Away team finds the Operations Centre and downloads the encrypted Communications logs.
At the same time, about 90 minutes since the Away Team left, Lt. Zhaav, who had been continually scanning for cloaked vessels, picks up a cloaked small craft, about twice the size of a Runabout, about to ram the Kimura.
Some fancy last second maneuvering by Zhaav causes the small ship to miss the Kimura, but it then slams into the space station.
A few minutes later, as the crew of the Kimura is recovering from the drastic maneuvering, the Security Chief receives a call from near the Med Lab. “Send help! It’s alive and …”. The communication cuts out.
Teaser: Ninety minutes into their mission to investigate a malfunctioning Romulan Space Station in the Shackleton Expanse, the Kimura detects a small cloaked vessel about to ram them. Some fancy maneuvering by the helmsman causes the small ship to miss the Kimura, but it then slams into the space station.
A few minutes later, as the crew of the Kimura is recovering from the drastic maneuvering, the Security Chief receives a call from near the Med Lab. “Send help! It’s alive and …”. The communication is cut off.
Is the Away Team still alive? What has happened in the Med Lab?
Notable Information: The supposedly dead Romulan that had been retrieved from space turns out to be much livelier than expected.
Two additional infected Romulans are retrieved after being blown out into space from the collision of the small ship with the station.
The away team survived the collision, being in an adjacent section of the station. The pressure doors successfully close and seal off the damaged area.
The Away Team discovers that there were three different weaponized viruses being developed on the station and somehow all three got loose and infected the crew.
The collision knocked the station into a decaying orbit which would cause it to plunge into the atmosphere in several hours and likely burn up. There was a chance that some portions might survive reentry and infect the planet so the crew assisted the process by exploding the fusion reactor and using the tractor beam to ensure all large pieces would have a reentry path that would guarantee burn up.
Teaser: On the frontier of Federation space, the Player Characters encounter a vessel of unknown origin: a forested geodesic dome. The damaged craft appears to be well over 1,000 years old and foreign to the Milky Way Galaxy. It does not respond to hails and no intelligent life readings are detected.
Ckcclwlttc – A member of the insectiod race, the Jahan !Xu
Notable Information: The domed ship is made of organic material. The tress on the ship are dying because they are losing sap from holes made by wood-poring creatures. These creatures small sentient insectiods call the Jahan !Xu which exist in hyper-accelerated time, making them invisible. They suffer from a neurodegenerative disease that has nearly wiped out their species. Only the sap of the ancient trees, to which they are addicted, slows the progress.
Dr. O’Nnyah and the crew of the Kimura, working with one of the Jahan !Xu have developed a treatment for the addiction but need additional test subjects to develop a full on cure. An away team has beamed over to the ship to try and establish communication with the ship and with the other Jahan !Xu.

Ckcclwlttc – A member of the insectiod race, the Jahan !Xu
Notable Information: The Forest ship comes from a planet where millennium ago two astronauts crash landed. One astronaut died but the other merged with the newly sentient trees to become the First Tree.
As the sun of their home system started to die, the trees build the Forest ship and sent a colony of trees out into the stars to find they promised land, the astronaut’s home, Albali Prime.
Albali Prime has reverted to medieval level of civilization and are a very peaceful people. It seems that at some point in their past they were much more advanced but suffered some sort of catastrophe and nearly destroyed themselves.
The Trees land on Albali Prime and are accepted by the inhabitants, thanks to the story telling preparation from Lt. Asha and the work of the rest of the Kimura Away Team.
The Jahan !xu are cured of their addiction to the Tree’s sap, and their neurodegenerative disease, and a new home is found for them in a nearby asteroid belt.
Teaser: “We have received orders to rendezvous with the U.S.S. Bradbury, en route to Starbase 173. We are to transfer over a Federation science team and take them to the edge of the Neutral Zone. It appears we’re hunting cloaked warbirds. Recent encounters with the Romulans has convinced Starfleet there may be many Romulan vessels entering the Shackleton Expanse through the Neutral Zone and Federation space. The science team brings with them three different sensor devices Starfleet Command wants tested. One of these sensors will, the confidently expect, be able to detect cloaked Romulan vessels. If it works, the cloaking device will be much less of a tactical advantage for the Romulans than it was in the past, giving the Federation a great advantage in the event of future hostilities.”

Captain Georj Brandt – New Captain of the U.S.S. Kimura
Notable Information: Several members of the U.S.S. Kimura, including Captain T’Kor, Cmd. Xedrik, Lt. Cmd. Sivath, Lt. Oqwadel, Chief Petty Officer Winston Emmet, and Chief Petty Officer Dallas Brenner have been transferred to the U.S.S. Galvarino after a sneak attack by Romulans killed many members of the Galvario’s command crew. Captain Georj Brandt has been pulled out of Academy duty and assigned as the new Captain of the U.S.S. Kimura. Three teams of scientists have been assigned to the Kimura to test out three different devices for locating cloaked Romulan vessels.
Teaser: Having successfully tested the three new sensors, and determining that one indeed works, the U.S.S. Kimura now turns to rendezvous with the U.S.S. Fortunate, a starship heading directly back to Earth to take the scientists home.
Each of the scientists are anxious to report to Starfleet Command: Sarok, to get his device into production; Kragen, to file a formal complaint to have the tests redone; and Nakamura to move on to her next assignment.
Captain Georj Brandt has arranged for a Yuletide celebration as a way for new and old crew members to get to know each other, and has invited the visiting scientists to join in.
The recreation room on Deck 2 has been decorated for the occasion, tasteful floral arrangements, platters of delicacies from throughout the Federation, guests dressed in their off-duty finest. A small band, comprised of fellow crewmembers plays requests. A very peaceful and relaxing event. What could possibly go wrong?

Notable Information: Traveling to rendezvous with the U.S.S. Fortunate for the scientists’ return trip home, the Crew and scientists have another opportunity to socialize, this time at a Yuletide celebration. The revelry is interrupted by another distress signal, from another freighter. The Crew attempts to locate the attacker, using the new sensors, only to discover they no longer operate. In between the time of the test and the celebration, someone sabotaged the new sensors. It turns out that Gretel is a Romulan spy. She attempts to take Sarok hostage and escape but is quickly subdued. The Romulans leave with the information Gretel sent them about the sensors.
Teaser: Extended stellar and planetary survey missions to a remote part of the Shackleton Expanse near Sigma Librae and the Romulan Star Empire find an interesting planetary system that contains two Class-M planets that orbit each other, that show signs of a sublight spacefaring civilization that has recently destroyed itself.

Captain Georj Brandt – New Captain of the U.S.S. Kimura
Notable Information: The solar system surrounding the star HIP 73513 is the location of a very rare Trojan pair of Class-M planets that both developed their own native sentient life. The first species to develop was on the smaller of the Class-M planets, a humanoid species that had developed in the tidal areas of their oceans and sharing many traits with Terran canines.
The other, larger world was named ‘Five Turns’ or more literally ‘Everything’ by its non-humanoid, radially symmetrical sentient species. The ‘Us’ didn’t evolve flexible manipulative digits equivalent to human thumbs and fingers, thus they were never able to develop any technologies besides fire.
Teaser: A month ago, Starfleet picked up an unusual alien signal emanating from the Seku system, deep inside the Carina Nebula. The runabout Susquehanna was initially dispatched to investigate, but the crew failed to report and is presumed lost. Starfleet must investigate the source of the signal and locate the missing runabout.

Notes: This was a straight run through of the adventure as published so I have not provided a detailed description.
Notable Information: The signal is being sent by ancient alien technology similar to that discovered on Orgun III (Decision Point). The signal performs like an echo locator – it’s waiting for a response from other obelisks in the Expanse.
Mission Recap: The Crew of the Kimura arrived in system and do an initial scan of Seku VI. They pick up signals from two Federation comm badges as well as indications that two small ships were recently in the system. One crashed on the planet and the other left.
Further scans reveal that the ship that crashed was a Romulan shuttle. They also pick up a settlement near where the source of the alien signal is coming from.
After carefully considering the dangers of trying to fly a shuttle down to the planet vs beaming down, they decide to risk the transporters, taking extra time and precautions to ensure a safe beam down.
They successfully beam down and as they start to move towards the Federation comm signals, they are attacked by two Romulans.
Teaser: Following the discoveries on Seku VI during the episode Signals, Starfleet has ordered all starships assigned to Narendra Station to the region around the Alpha Toryui star system. They are to assist in the recovery of a civilian archaeological team and in assisting a Starfleet Corps of Engineers Geospatial survey platoon from Alpha Toryui II after long range sensors detected that the primary of the system was days from gravitational collapse and becoming a supernova.

Captain Georj Brandt – New Captain of the U.S.S. Kimura
Notes: This was a straight run through of the adventure as published so I have not provided a detailed description. My crew focused primarily on the sun and the orbiting debris rather than the planet itself. I had created a grid to keep track of time during this adventure. I intended it just as a tracker but it actually worked really well to increase tension during the game. The characters tokens would move down the grid as they took various actions, The dark lines indicated when gravimetric waves would hit the ship, and the supernova was at the bottom. The gold tokens were used to track the number of successes each round for extended tasks.
The countdown clock
Notable Information: More examples of the ancient alien technology have been found in the Alpha Toryui system. Energy is being drawn from the red giant star, which leads to the star’s collapse and the entire system gets pulled through a subspace rift. The telepathic and empathic members of the crew hear a voice saying “Tilikaal…help us…please…”
Mission Recap: Alpha Toryui is a three-planet system with a red giant star reaching the end of its life span in the center. Federation scientists are interested in the star as it has shown evidence of being far too young to be reaching the last stages of its existence before becoming a supernova and some researchers have suggested an ancient species may have performed a sort of stellar re-engineering project for an unknown purpose. Initial surveys of the three rocky worlds orbiting Alpha Toryui don’t show signs of any former inhabitation or terraforming. The only evidence the unknown species left behind of their presence in the system were wrecked and useless orbital constructs circling the bloated red primary. There were also chambers found on Alpha Troyui II that contained some artifacts and and many obviously artificial complexes.
The Crew of the Kimura was deployed to the Alpha Toryui system to rendezvous with U.S.S. Mogami to assist in the evacuation of a team of archaeologists and several unique ancient artifacts from below the surface of the second world
Further scans of the system shows a strange sensor shadow deep in the star. The wreckage around the sun seems to have once been gravitationally bound to this sensor shadow. The are indications that suggest that there used to be a second , high mass object, that also orbited the star. This could be the sensor shadow but it proves to be impossible to get any good readings from it even after sending in probes. They do detect some flickers of power from some of the orbiting debris during one of the many flares from the sun.
Teaser: Captain’s Log, Stardate 48942.6. We’ve been recalled to Narendra Station, where Admiral Hebert has called me and my senior staff in for a major scientific briefing. The fact the other captains and staffs assigned to the Expanse are here too doesn’t bode well. Someone’s figured out how to put together some of the puzzle pieces we’ve found over the last several months.
I’m deeply curious to see what the picture looks like, though I have to admit to a certain level of dreadful anticipation as well.

Notable Information: In this adventure, the Players Characters join in a scientific and strategic meeting held aboard Narendra Station. At this briefing, they begin to see the bigger picture of the strange goings-on within the Expanse and how alien technology and artifacts are related to the revelation of something called the Tilikaal. The Players will investigate the disappearance of Federation sensor probes, and then run afoul of a Romulan landing party on a massive Class-M world teeming with ancient power. Notes: This was a straight run through of the adventure as published so I have not provided a detailed description . This was run using the version of the adventure from the Living Campaign on the Modiphius website. This is now also available in the Shackleton Expanse Campaign Guide. This was the last of the Adventures from the Modiphius website. The Shackleton Expanse Campaign Guide had been announced but wasn’t going to be published until near the end of 2021. Because this adventure ended on a cliffhanger, I decided this would be a good point to take a break in the campaign for awhile. We normally break over summer, but this ended up being a little longer than our usual break.
Notable Information: In this mission, the Player Characters join in a council of war held aboard Narendra Station. Threats of renewed hostilities with the Tzenkethi and possible Changeling infiltrations throughout the Alpha and Beta Quadrants have heightened tensions on the station, in addition to the current threat of a focused Romulan incursion into the Shackleton Expanse, specifically toward the Candidate Three system detailed in the previous Living Campaign mission, “The Assessor Gambit”. The Players will investigate anomalous readings on the planet, and will again encounter the strange alien being, Assessor Tredik, just before all hell breaks loose.
Mysterious claims are intertwined with tenuous realities in this mission as the players’ ship enters the pocket universe containing the Displaced Tilikaal, suffering multiple system overloads during the passage. The crew struggles to perform repairs while experiencing hallucinations caused by background electromagnetic fields within the pocket universe.
In addition to the Prime Directive, the Directives for this mission are to:

Notes: This was the follow up adventure to the cliff hanger ending of the last adventure of the Living Campaign that had been found on the Modiphius Website. The adventures from the website were gathered up into the Shackleton Expanse Campaign Guide. Some of them were include whole, others were shrunk down to Mission Briefs.
Notable Information:
Mysterious claims are intertwined with tenuous realities in this mission as the players’ ship enters the pocket universe containing the Displaced Tilikaal, suffering multiple system overloads during the passage. The crew struggles to perform repairs while experiencing hallucinations caused by background electromagnetic fields within the pocket universe. Two Starfleet officers, who entered the universe separately from the ship, briefly appear on the bridge, then disappears. The crew finds ways to mitigate the EM fields, rescue the Starfleet officer, and meet Ash’Tamalia’s spiritual form, her aderi, face to face. She tells the story of the Displaced and pleads for Starfleet to help them escape the pocket universe and reclaim their physical bodies. The crew then finds a way to open a portal back to the Candidate Three system and they and their ship return to their universe.
Teaser: The star goalie for the Klingon ‘apuStoQ (Hawks) hockey team has gone missing the day before the playoff game against the Andor Atomics on Narendra Station. Things on the station are already tense and this certainly doesn’t help.
